  • What is Doppler Fetal Monitor? Jun 30, 2022
A Doppler fetal monitor is an ultrasound device for detecting heart beat of a fetus and provides simulation of the heart beat. It reports the heart beat rate in beats per minute and/or audio signals indicating the fetus heart beat. A Doppler fetal monitor provides similar information as a fetal stethoscope; however a Doppler fetal monitor bounces ultrasound waves off of your baby's heart to produce sound and does not rely on the sound produced by the heart. Doppler auscultation is more sensitive and can pick up heart beats as early as 5-weeks into pregnancy; for fetal stethoscope, the fetus may have to grow 20 weeks before the heart beat is strong enough to be detected. Doppler fetal monitor operators at either 2 or 3MHz. Both types would work well for heart rate detection; however the 3M Hz version works better during early stage of pregnancy, while the 2M Hz version works better for overweight mothers. 4MHz and 8 MHz probes are also available and they are for detection of b...
  • What Are In Vitro Diagnostic Tests and How Are They Regulated? Jul 20, 2022
Oversight may not be keeping pace with changes in the diagnostics market Health care providers rely on a variety of tools to diagnose conditions and guide treatment decisions. Among the most common and widely used are in vitro diagnostics (IVDs), which are clinical tests that analyze samples taken from the human body. Patients may receive—or forgo—medical care based on diagnostic test results, making it critically important that tests are reliable. These tests are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration as medical devices, which means manufacturers must submit studies confirming a test’s accuracy and usefulness in diagnosing a particular condition before bringing it to market. However, FDA has historically exempted from this requirement any IVDs that are developed and used within the same laboratory, often referred to as laboratory-developed tests (LDTs). Though some test developers dispute that FDA has jurisdiction over LDTs—arguing that the tes...

  • History of gauze usage and modern wound dressings Aug 31, 2022
Gauze is often used as a generic term to cover a wide range of dressing products. However, gauze products have numerous subcategories that differ according to fabric construction or material composition. The two major groups are referred to as  woven or non‐woven. Also 100% cotton. It is important that practitioners differentiate between these subcategories as product characteristics, and performance will differ within each group .It plays a difference role on its products area. Non‐woven gauze dressings are generally made of rayon or synthetic fibre blends. Not to be confused with woven gauze, these dressings were introduced to replace woven products as they have a lower adherence to the wound bed and are less likely to release lint. We called Non-Woven gauze. Woven products, often referred to as absorbent cotton gauze, are generally made of 100% natural cotton yarns and have been manufactured the same way for centuries. It is this type of gauze that has the potential to cause mor...
  • What does a Personal Care Aide do? Sep 14, 2022
A personal care aide provides various services to a person who is unable to care for themselves on their own. These duties may include things like cooking food, picking up heavy objects, dressing, bathing, using the restroom, and performing simple housekeeping tasks. The main types of people that personal care aides serve are the physically disabled, the cognitively impaired, the chronically ill, and the elderly. Some personal care aides work with just one specific client, while others work with several clients individually. Other aides may work with multiple clients at the same time. For example, a live-in residential aid may only have one client. Another residential aide may travel between the homes of clients throughout the day. Other aides may work in group setting like hospitals, nursing homes, and adult daycare centers. An aide who works in an adult daycare center with the cognitively impaired may, for example, find that their main duty is assisting the individuals they care for ...
